Microsoft shipped me this tablet early on the 25th. What a pleasant surprise! Thin, looks and feels great, nice screen, FAST!(boots up photoshop CS 5 in 3 seconds). The down side is that it bloatwares the hell out of the product...so out of the "128gb" which was only 98 gb - 40gb of other random BS your left with 50! LOL. Camera isnt good but but it works. The pen feels better than the ASUS EP 121, even has a side click to press and hold then tap with the pen to right click. Runs League of Legends on High settings smoothly. I wish it had a button to launch the virtual keyboard and also a curved 90 degree charging tip...straight ones always go out fast. It doesnt come with ANYTHING so you would have to buy all the accessories for it. Overall i enjoy this tablet very much...rarely touch my iPad now. Maybe here and there to play video games that are only on there :)

I have had my Slate for about two weeks now and have finally reached the point where I can offer some observations. Not trying to be comprehensive here, but share the things I have noticed so far that I would have liked to have known before I bought it.

I have the XE700TA1-A04US model, which specs out with the 128GB SSD and Windows 7 Pro.

First observation:
Early adopter beware. Not all of the features listed in the early releases have made it into these models. There is no GPS, and while there is an SIM card slot, no information on carrier support here in the US. Try to register your product on the Samsung site and you will find that not all model numbers are listed. Early indications were that this model would ship with the dock and the keyboard, but that has changed. I purchased mine through the Microsoft Store online and they did ship a dock separately.

The Samsung slate is an impressive piece of hardware. Performance is quite good, the screen is beautiful (with the exception of some odd brightness instability even with the adaptive display brightness disabled) and the pen input is excellent. There are a number of things worth pointing out.

*Contrary to initial reports and previews, the device does not feature a GPS. This is a significant and baffling decision on their part as it makes the device useless for something like streets and trips.
*The docks are not included in the higher end packages as initial reports indicated. Right now nobody seems to be offering them separately either.
*There's a hardware start button, but it launches a Samsung launcher application which is slow and clunky. There's no obvious way to rebind it to launch the Start Menu. This gets annoying really quickly.

I've used Desktop PCs for as long as I could remember and this is the first laptop I've ever purchased. However I did tons of research before I purchased this machine. So as a new laptop user, I just want to say I'm pleased I made the change to mobile computing.

The laptop has a lot pros, but it also has some cons that really stand out. The hardware itself is solid. Aluminum build with a clean brushed look on top. The keyboard is very easy to type on, but the edge of the laptop is sharp and it digs into your wrist while your typing. It's more than a minor annoyance. You'll find yourself lifting your wrist off (mainly your right wrist) to see the marks the edge leaves behind. I'm not going to lie, the edge is sharp enough to put in some pain. I suggest wearing a wrist band while typing.

Another issue that bugged me a little bit was the video graphics. If you don't optimize the graphics to play videos off the web, such as Facebook videos, the video itself will get... Read more

Love my new Samsung Slate! Best Win7 slate so far. I have the 128 GB model (xe700ta1-A04US) and the thing is quick. Certainly no compromises when it comes to performance. Touch works great, pen works great, video playback works great. Battery life seem to be in the 6.5 hour range but i haven't had time do to enough testing.. but 6+ hours is enough for me.

First a little about myself: I am not a fan boy of anything. I love gadgets but I am not emotionally attached to any brand. I built my own Windows 7 computers, have two ipads, a macbook air, a dell laptop and an iMac. Over the years I have owned 4 different tabletpcs and have been disappointed with each. I toyed with the idea of buy the EP121, but the I heard about the Samsung Slate so I waited. On paper, it seemed like as close to perfect a Windows Tablet as I can hope for before Windows 8 came out. As soon as it hit one of the MS store in LA, I drove 4 hours to get it. Here's my review after 2 days of use. First my biases:

I received this tablet at MS Build conference, but it is the same device.
I rated this device 4 instead 5 for a couple of factors.
1. The hardware build quality is excellent, but the windows button being placed in the middle of widest side makes it awkward to use. This may be more to prevent litigation with Apple, but still an annoyance.
2. The battery life is at best 5 hours unless you go crazy with the power management settings.

I also received the dock, bluetooth keyboard, and stylus with it. These are extremely valuable as they make it almost a laptop replacement. I have very large fingers and found the keyboard very easy to use. What is so great about the keyboard it is the same width as the tablet and the sleeve we got at the conference is big enough that I can put the tablet, keyboard, and stylus all in it.

Ok, here's the thing, I didn't attend the Build conference but I watched the videos, I did a lot of research and put plainly, I wanted this slate and I wanted Windows 8...now. Why? Because it's going to revolutionize computing without actually revolutionizing it. It's an evolution, a next step, an obvious direction but it's so amazing that it has to be revolutionary. Now, I'll try to hold back on blindly talking about Windows 8 with the Slate and just try to focus on the Slate itself but let's be honest, the Slate's hardware...what brings this thing to life is the software so you can't talk about one without mentioning the other. I bought this laptop a week ago to replace an MSI GE620 which is a terrible laptop. So far I love this laptop. I arranged for a Plextor 128gb SSD to show up the same day as the laptop. The first thing I did was to remove the bottom of the laptop and replace the HDD. This was a little more complicated than other laptops I have had in the past. The bottom of the laptop is one piece and has no access panels to the various parts inside therefore in order to access the ram or HDD you must remove the whole bottom cover. There are a few screws to remove which are easily visible, and then there are two additional screws under the back rubber feet. The feet are attached with adhesive and stick pretty well. Even after I was done, the adhesive was sticky enough to replace the feet and no additional adhesive was required.

When removing the bottom you have to unsnap it from the top where the black plastic meets the silver. IMPORTANT: the back part of the bottom cover where the cpu fan... Read more

I wanted a reasonable sized, light, easily transportable notebook computer that would be fast enough in normal usage to not feel slow. This Samsung works. It is subjectively fast, light enough (3.1 lbs) to carry easily, and has the capacity to do everything I want to do. The keys don't have much travel but are easy to get used to. At full brightness, the screen is fine. At 12.6 inches, it's big enough. Even with the power cord, the whole package is still under 5 lbs. Wish it had more USB ports--2 means I have to use a small 4-hole port. I got an external DVD writer/player for when I have to use a DVD to get software installed. I prefer to not have to carry the additional weight of a DVD around when my need for it is rare. The very smoothly opening lid is a nice touch, adding to the all around good visual and tactile impression of this notebook.

These are the OEM headphone/mics that come stock with the Samsung Galaxy S (aka Vibrant, aka Captivate, etc). Now most of us are used to getting crappy, barely-functional manufacturer supplied headphones with our phones and music players (looking at you Cupertino), but Samsung did customers right with these. Although they won't win any fashion design awards, they have what counts... function, form and performance.

They are lightweight, come with a range of comfortable in-ear nubs to suit different anatomies and are well built. The cord length is generous without being ridiculous and relatively tangle free. The inline controls and mic are reasonable slim and interact well with the phones they were designed for (bonus, I've found that several third party apps on Android programmed to take advantage of the controller functionality work with these ear buds).

Lastly -- I use my headphones every single day. After 8 months of dropping my phone while connected to the phones, getting them stuck as I got out the car, they finally were starting to give out. (Basically pulled them so hard that the connection became weak at the jack).

Good head set for the price. I ONLY talk using headset (hate the bluetooth thing - poor sound and you have to speak too loud)... the headset was clear and everyone I talked to could hear me clearly. The sound was good for playing music. I basically have the earbud in constantly for either music or taking/placing calls. Note that this type of earbud is better for listening to music than taking calls as the "in ear" rubber type tend to seal out exterior noise (great for blocking out and listening to music - but not so perfect for placing calls as you get that hollow "I can hear myself in a tin can" and you speak louder than necessary because you can't hear yourself as well... The regular ear buds without the "suction cups" are better for making calls so I have a set of those too if I know I am going to be placing calls or need to "hear" my surrounding environment better. I ordered this on Aug. 29th in the late evening, and it arrived by noon on the 31st, so I was very pleased with the speedy delivery. I'll start with the box it came in. I know, it's just a box, but it reminded me of the kind fine silverware comes in--heavy duty but beautiful.

The actual laptop is like a work of art, it's so elegant. It feels incredibly solid. You'd think being so thin, it would feel flimsy, but it doesn't.

I plugged it in and booted it up. The installation process was quick and seamless. I'd had worries about the Wi-fi because reviews on the i5 version showed many complaints of it not connecting. I had no issues whatsoever. I entered my security code and it connected immediately. In fact, it's picking it up better than my previous netbook ever did.

I have never been a Mac fan (just couldn't get along with them plus don't like the whole "Mac is allmighty and if you own anything else you must be a dork" scene) and so I was very dubious about getting a Mac Book Air but that was the only machine that seemed to fit my needs. I then discovered and have just bought the Samsung series 9 (with the i-7 processor and larger SSD) and I am enthralled with it. It looks so cool, it's feather light, the screen and keyboard are a dream and it it's really fast too. I must say that I was somewhat in trepidation about the many reported wifi problems and sad to say, I experienced them too. However, after searching around for about 20 minutes and finding much conflicting advice from many very frustrated users I came accross a review on Amazon that advised changing the default power management settings in the wifi section from minimize power usage to maximize performance (when on battery) and voila, problem totally solved. I've had this laptop for several weeks now. First the good; it is a really good looking laptop w/ a nice screen, the back lit keyboard is great, it boots/resumes very fast. Now, the not so good, the touch pad is so large that it gets in the way making it much more usable if I disable the touch pad and use an external mouse. Now the REALLY BAD, the wireless card in this laptop is really poor. I wish I had seen this review prior to purchasing the laptop([...]). At home, this laptop can barely deliver 3Mg down / 1Mg up while my other laptops and desktops get 12Mg/5Mg in the same room. I have the latest Samsung drivers and no amount of fiddling with settings renders anything better.

Too bad that Samsung has delivered a beautiful laptop with such a significant flaw.
